St. Joseph’s College would have been participating in the 23rd annual Ride for Life event this year, joining many in the fight to raise money and find a cure for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). But with the current social distancing policies in place, the event — like so many others — went virtual.
“Our students, faculty and staff have raised awareness and money for research to find a cure, as well as support services for the patients,” said Gail Lamberta, Ph.D., professor and chair of recreation and leisure studies at St. Joseph’s.
While the traditional event could not take place due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a virtual Ride for Life was created through a series of video clips and photos from children and families quarantined, as well as pictures from last year’s ride at both SJC Long Island and SJC Brooklyn.
“This year, we are raising awareness, and those who would like to make a personal contribution can do so by accessing a link on the video, or through the ALS Ride for Life website,” Dr. Lamberta said.
