Don’t leave your ID card at home.
As per a new security protocol, SJC Long Island students, staff and faculty will be required to show or swipe their SJC ID card as of Friday, Jan. 31, when entering any building on campus.
“Recent incidents across the country have made it clear that we must continue to work hard to make St. Joseph’s College as secure as possible,” St. Joseph’s President Donald R. Boomgaarden, Ph.D., said. “The safety of our students, faculty and staff must remain a top priority if we are to thrive as an institution of learning.”
The Center for Student Involvement, located in the Student Hospitality Lounge in O’Connor Hall, will be open until 7 p.m. today, Jan. 30, and Wednesday, Feb. 5, for individuals who either need to get an ID card or need to update one from more than five years ago. In addition, their office is open until 6 p.m. every Wednesday and Thursday during the semester.
The Center also has SJC-branded lanyards for anyone who needs them. These provide students, faculty and staff with an option to wear their ID, making it both easily accessible and visible when entering buildings on campus.
Those without their SJC ID cards, as well as outside guests, will be required to sign in with another form of picture ID.
Campus security will also be locking Door No. 5 in O’Connor Hall at 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and it will remain locked on the weekends. Students, faculty and staff can use Door No. 7 during these times to enter O’Connor Hall.
“With your cooperation and assistance, I am positive that St. Joseph’s will not only meet today’s challenges, but will remain the warm and welcoming environment our students need for their development and our faculty and staff need to do their jobs well,” Dr. Boomgaarden said.
